Is it time for a new website?

The internet is a rapidly evolving environment. This opens up some opportunity for you and/or your company, whether this opportunity is beneficial or not, is up to you. If you don’t already have a web presence, you might want to look into one. If you already have a website, how much is it benefiting you and is it time for an upgrade? If you’re not sure, there are a few questions you can ask yourself.

When was the website created, and does it look and feel dated?

If a viewer isn’t immediately interested in the appearance of your website, the odds of them clicking that dreaded back button is pretty high. If by some chance they take a look around, it is likely that they will think twice about whether to trust if the information coming from it is relevant and up to date.

Is the website responsive (can you easily view it on a mobile device)?

Today’s culture is very device oriented, if your website isn’t formatted to be easily viewed across multiple devices (i.e. cell phone, tablet, or desktop) you aren’t reaching the potential audience that you could be.

Do you have quality content? Does this content include relevant, up to date information about you or your company (i.e. About/History, what you offer (product, service, etc.), your team/bio)?

Google has crawlers that scour the internet when they get to your website, and it doesn’t meet the content requirements is looking for, you won’t rank as well as you could be. If the content isn’t long enough (~1500 words) Google will assume you don’t know enough about the subject as your competition might. With that said, the quality of the content is just as important. If you have irrelevant content so that you meet a word count, it can also hurt your rankings.
